ON Friday, August 30th, Halifax will be home to the premiere Mosaic Film Festival. This day-long film festival will take place at the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21, showcasing the talents of emerging local and international filmmakers. The film festival will kick off the 2019 Mosaic Festival of Arts and Culture, a weekend-long event celebrating the vast array of colourful cultures found in Halifax with a parade downtown on August 31st and a waterfront party of vendors and performances from around the world on September 1st.
The Mosaic film festival is organized by the Halifax-based immigration platform My Halifax Experience Media and Publishing. This ground-breaking film festival will act as a forum for our diverse community to share their cultures and experiences as immigrants while also bringing together a broad array of cultures through the art of film.
“Expanding our platform to include a film festival is like a dream come true,” says Ifeanyi Emesih, creator of the Mosaic Film Festival and founder of My Halifax Experience. “We want to continue celebrating diversity and inclusion through storytelling, we want to share stories from different parts of the world.”
Films shown at the Mosaic Film Festival will have a focus on newcomer’s experiences, cultural identities and journeys in their new homes. Entries from creators around the globe are also welcomed. Awards will be given in 12 categories, and recipients will be decided by a committee led by a programming coordinator.
The Mosaic Film Festival is supported by Develop Nova Scotia, Downtown Halifax Business Commission, Halifax Regional Municipality and Halifax Stanfield International Airport. More information and updates are available at www.mosaicfestival.ca. This is also where interested participants can submit their films, as well as read the guidelines for submissions. The early bird deadline for submissions is January 28th, 2019, and all films must be submitted by June 1st, 2019.
About My Halifax Experience
Founded by Ifeanyi Emesih, My East Coast Experience is a multimedia partnership celebrating the similarities and differences of people choosing the East Coast of Canada as their new home. This venture includes online portals and a quarterly magazine that tells the stories – and shares the dreams – of new immigrants who have found success in this region, while encouraging others to stay in the Maritimes to pursue their own dreams.
